Bridal Beauty: Montarna Pitt

Posted in Bridal on January 13, 2019 by

A wedding is the perfect excuse to splurge on your skin, but we get that it can be overwhelming. There are a lot of treatments and not a lot of time. That’s why Gritty Pretty introduced Bridal Beauty, a section dedicated to word-of-mouth bridal beauty tips from those in the know.

In this edition, we’re taking you behind the pre-wedding beauty routine of Australian lifestyle publicist Montarna Pitt (née McDonald), who wed her longtime beau Nick Pitt at Redleaf, Wollombi in the Hunter Valley last December.

From Pitt’s fairytale gown by Israeli designer Inbal Dror, to her sophisticated yet natural beauty look, trust us—you’ll want to add these snaps to your Pinterest board (and take notes).

MY WEDDING-SKIN PREP…

“I really ramped things up on the skincare front three months out from our wedding. This worked quite well for me because it was early Spring, and my skin responds so much better to treatments and regimes in the warmer weather.”

MY SKINCARE REGIME…

“I committed to the RATIONALE Essential Six regimen and continued with my usual skincare routine—cleansing, using a sensitive skin serum, moisturising and applying sunscreen. I booked monthly facial appointments at RATIONALE, and had fortnightly light treatment sessions at The Parlour Room in Sydney’s Randwick. I started mixing The Beauty Chef’s Collagen Inner Beauty Boost into my water daily, and also added a teaspoon of the Glow Inner Beauty Powder into my porridge—I found that this helped both my skin and my gut. Additionally, I got on board with self-care Sunday, taking time before the start of the week to soak in a bath and pamper my skin with a face mask. I used a mix of masks depending on how my skin was feeling; if it was dry I went for a hydrating mask or if my complexion was dull, I’d opt for a brightening formula.”

I WOULD CHANGE…

“I wish I’d started working on my skin further out from the wedding—I had always planned to start six months ahead but time got away from me. I also had an allergic reaction two weeks from the wedding from a spray tan product I hadn’t used before. It gave me hives which wasn’t pleasant and stressed me out even more—I’m not precious, but maybe I should’ve been a little more conscious so close to the wedding! I quickly swapped back to Rodan + Fields Soothe Regimen to clear things up and within three days, the results were miraculous. It was my skin saviour.”

MY WEDDING INSPIRATION…

“I went straight to my beautiful friends who’ve been married before me to find out what worked for them and what didn’t in the lead up to their special day. I’ve also got some amazingly talented friends in the industry who guided me on do’s and don’ts, as well as asking my mum—she has always worked in skincare.”

MY MAKEUP ARTIST…

“Mia Hawkswell did my makeup. I’m lucky as I work with Mia regularly and she’s a close friend so the brief was a pretty ‘Mon look’—effortless with a polished edge.”

MY HAIR STYLIST…

“Mia was in charge of my locks, too. I wanted my hair back for the ceremony because my dress had a lot of detail, plus the train, the veil and flowers. I still wanted hair to frame my face, so we decided on a low textured pony with strands out at the front, and we secured it in silver elastic to add a unique detail. At the reception I took my hair out—by this time I had removed my veil and the train from my dress and I felt the look could handle it. I wanted to feel like me on the day; my signature look but with a bridal touch.”

MY LIPSTICK…

“I’m fussy when it comes to lipstick shades; I feel like it can make or break a look! In the lead up to the wedding, Mia and I experimented with a range of different shades from Hourglass, YSL lip gloss and M.A.C Cosmetics lipsticks. In the end, we took a bunch to the wedding so I could decide on the day—it was dependant on my skin and how bronzed I looked. Nick mentioned that he loved when I wore nude shades but I know it can sometimes make my lips disappear, so we had to use a liner and I opted for a pink nude using Sisley Phyto-Lip Twist Matte Tinted Balm in 19, layered with Hourglass Femme Nude Lip Stylo in No.1, plus Mecca Cosmetica Lip De Luscious with SPF 25 for hydration throughout the night.”

MY FRAGRANCE…

“I always wear Maison Francis Kurkdjian Baccarat Rouge EDP and was in a constant struggle in the lead up whether to wear that or Tom Ford Fucking Fabulous EDP, which my Mum had bought me as a gift for the wedding day. In the end I went with Tom Ford—I loved being able to use a gift that Mum had given me for the occasion. Nick wore Maison Margiela Jazz Club EDT.”
