Mandy Shadforth, Artist and Founder of fashion blog www.oraclefox.com.
When she's not surfing breaks across Bali, Mandy Shadforth is blogging and capturing beautiful photography. I caught up with the beautiful artist to chat all things fashion and beauty and to find out about her brainchild, Oracle Fox.
How did Oracle Fox come about? What inspired you to start your blog?
I started Oracle Fox in August 2010. The reason I started blogging was because I had all of this creative energy and no where to release it. With my artwork it's only a small part of who I am, even though it's my main profession. I've always been quite creative, putting together DIY projects and collecting inspirational fashion images so it only seemed natural to gather everything I do and house it all in one spot which became my blog. Oracle Fox is constantly evolving - when I started I didn't know how much to share with the blogoshpere because it's really scary sharing your soul and your personal loves on the internet but the support I've received has been incredible and most of my readers mostly enjoy the posts that feature my own photos and creations.
Tell us... What does 'Oracle Fox' mean?
Not very many people know the answer to this question so I'll put it this way - Oracle Fox was inspired by an animal but not a fox, an animal that always knows the answers. As for oracles, they feature strongly in my artwork too.
What inspires you?
This is really hard to answer because I'm inspired by so many things around me. At the moment I'm totally obsessed with natural light and the way it hits things and creates shadows, reflections and prisms. In my daily life I'm inspired by other creators, mythology and photography.
When you're not blogging, what do you do?
When I'm not blogging I'm always surfing and if the surf is not good or I'm not near the ocean, you can find me with my friends; visiting markets, enjoying yummy food or on road trip.
What's your current lust-have fashion item?
I was very very lucky this Christmas and I received the Pamela Love Tribal Quartz Necklace which you can buy at www.bonadrag.com. I don't think I'll need anything else new in my life or for the rest of the year! But... I'd also have to say I've been searching high and low for a handmade tooled leather satchel and they really are like hens teeth!
What beauty product can you not live without?
I absolutely cannot go a single day without Ella Baché Sunguard 30+ Foundation, $46 (www.ellabache.com.au). It's actually a thick tan coloured zinc cream and is truly amazing. Over the years I've tried every zinc cream and this by far is the best. I put one of my best friends who's a beauty therapist onto it and she actually got me onto applying it thinly under my foundation everyday; it's brilliant.
What's next for Oracle Fox in 2011?
I think this it's going to be a big year so I'm excited! Since I started the blog I've been approached to do some really wonderful things so hopefully you'll see more depth to some of my creativity and art. I'm hoping to incorporate my artwork into other areas as well as starting up some freelance styling and designer collaborations. Watch this space!
