NEW TREND ALERT: LIP OILS

Posted in Lips on April 26, 2016 by

Just when you thought you’d seen the last of new skin oils (what else is there?!)…here’s one for your lips.

Lip oils are the latest in a movement that now spans cleansersbody care, hair treatments, mascaras and fragrances. They’re a cross between a nourishing lip balm and a luxurious lip gloss, infused with skin-loving essential oils that impart health and long-lasting hydration onto your pout. Consider lip oils a classy, grown-up update to the sickly sweet and sticky glosses that were all the rage in the ’90s and early ’00s. Also gone: silly amounts of shimmer. No, thank you.

As far as trends go, we’re keeping our eye on this one. We’re forever on the hunt for lip treatments that actually work and so far, we’re pretty chuffed with lip oils. Put it this way, we’ve got one in our bag and we’ll be keeping it there all winter for conditioned lips and a playful tint.

Interested? Start with these –

YSL Volupté Tint-in-Oil
Already an award winner, YSL Volupté Tint-in-Oil is your classic YSL lip gloss with a few noticeable upgrades. Firstly, it’s not so sticky with a fusion of apricot kernel, coriander fruit, jojoba seed and possiflora edulis seed oils that melt into your lips (you’ll notice it goes on super glossy at first, before setting like a tinted lip balm). Also, the usual ‘doe foot’ sponge-tip lip wand has been replaced with a bent-diamond ‘bouche à bouche’ design that’s meant to wrap around the contour of your lips for a uniform coat every time. Try not to lick it all off.

Lancôme Juicy Shaker on sale 8 May.
Remember Juicy Tubes? The iconic, industry-first gloss in a tube now has a successor, Lancôme next big innovation: the Juicy Shaker. Packaged in a mini cocktail shaker (fun!), the lightweight, lip-plumping formula blends together four sweet-smelling essential oils (cranberry, peach kernel, sweet almond and musk rose), and delivers the perfect amount of pigment and coverage first go thanks to Juicy Shaker’s effective ‘shake’ mechanic and cushion-cone applicator. Best yet, when the gloss dries, the tint and plump lasts for hours. 1 shade down, 13 to go.

Hourglass No.28 Lip Treatment Oil
For neglected lips, try this anti-ageing lip oil. It’s gel-gloss texture makes it easy to apply and it doesn’t slide off at the first sign of food or drink. Packed with powerful active ingredients, vitamins and a whole party bus of essential oils (14, exactly), the advanced formula restores youth and hydration to lips. Still not sold? The cooling 24-karat gold-plated tip and easy pump dispenser should get you over the line. Lip care never looked so good.
