Like the perfect pair of heels to a little black dress, nails help complete a fully-fledged look.
At Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia, designers proved that when it comes to nails both light and dark are leading the charge.
Christopher Esber S/S 14 opted for a neutral nude to complement his hit nautical-inspired collection. “Christopher wanted the nails to be paired back, relaxed and just all about the clothes, “says Ali Magliveras, nail artist for Essie. “We also wanted a point of difference so created a matte nail using two coats of Essie Nail Color in Sand Tropez, which is an opaque, urban and modern warm grey shade followed by one coat of Essie Matte About You Top Coat.”
Designer Kym Ellery also continued the nude nail look at Ellery S/S 14. “Kym wanted the nails to look fluid and tonal like an extension of skin,” says Magliveras. “Almost like foundation for nails.” Magliveras, who also applied Essie Nail Color in Sand Tropez to models’ nail beds, says it’s a neutral tone which works across most skin tones.
And, at Alex Perry S/S 14, the iconic Australian designer surprised beauty editors by going against a classic neutral, a nail look which Perry has embraced for seasons. Instead, Perry personally selected Essie Nail Color in No More Film, a deep midnight violet. “Navy and dark violets were huge at New York Fashion Week,” says Magliveras who created the nail look backstage. Adding, “With Alex’s collection, the navy adds a pop of colour. It’s a glamorous blue which looks great on all of the models’ complexions and is a really easy colour to wear both day or night.”
