How To Elevate Your Every Day Look

Another season, another excuse to refresh your makeup haul and lift your beauty game. While we love a dramatic bold red lip, we’d be lying if we said we weren’t excited to try fresh-faced looks for spring—and we’re not the only ones enamoured with lightweight skincare to taupey-toned makeup this time of year.

Gritty Pretty editor-in-chief Eleanor Pendleton feels the same way. “Spring beauty is about being playful–playing up your features and wearing less foundation and more highlighter. Beauty plays a huge role in my work (obviously), and I’ve learned the importance of looking after my skin and finding the products that are most beneficial to me,” says the beauty expert.

Another thing to keep in mind? You don’t need to worry about trying every trend. Instead, “narrow in on things that will work for you,” says Pendleton.

Taupe tones can define eyes no matter their colour while still being fit for day–try Tom Ford Eye Colour Quad in Cocoa Mirage. Shimmer highlights, when applied to the upper cheekbones and Cupid’s bow (just above the top lip), can play off your fine jewellery, zeroing in on pretty diamond details. We love Dior Backstage Glow Face Palette.

And, if you’re really game, opt for a fresh all-white ensemble. Before you hesitate, allow us to preface: Look we get it–the prospect of tonal dressing–by which we mean wearing the same hue, or variations of it, from head-to-toe–understandably seems a little intimidating at first, but white is a shade synonymous with new beginnings. So, it seems only fitting that your spring/summer wardrobe should be awash with white in all its variations, from ivory and eggshell to magnolia and porcelain–and, as Pendleton proves, it’s actually pretty simple to pull off: simply layer and experiment with texture.

After all, beauty and style should be fun, right?
