Work it, girl.
There really is no excuse not to exercise. Aside from the obvious mental and physical benefits, there are so many options these days that make it easier to get your fitness on. Alongside regular gyms and treadmills, Pilates and yoga studios can be found in both city centres and suburbs, offering classes for early birds and night owls. And don’t even get us started on all the super-cute outfits. So pull on your leggings, grab your water bottle, and meet us at one of these studios.
THE ALIGNMENT STUDIO
Your wellbeing one-stop shop. Conveniently located in the middle of Melbourne’s CBD, this wood-panelled wellness destination offers a multitude of wellbeing services to keep you functioning at your very best. Physio, pilates, nutrition, podiatry and remedial massage are all on offer, with the Vinyasa yoga class a particular stand out. Well-maintained equipment and small class sizes are also beneficial for ensuring you reach your full potential.
Double Bay & Brookvale, NSW
It’s Pilates, but not as you know it. For starters, you’ll hear the place before you see it, as an energising playlist replaces the usual soothing music. Then there’s the black ceiling and LED lighting, which really boost the fun factor and make this an ideal spot for hanging with your best girlfriends.
Don’t be surprised if you spot Laura Dundovic doing a downward dog, as the former Miss Universe Australia is a fan of this Morningside studio. And for those who are planning on travelling this summer, Duo has got you covered with an online Pilates program, so you can maintain your wellness routine on the road.
This holistic health hub in Rosebery focuses on the four pillars of health, which is why you’ll find a chiropractor, acupuncturist, physiotherapist, remedial massage therapist and dietician, alongside the yoga studio. Keep an eye out for the prenatal, mum-and-baby, and Pilates classes, which should be on the schedule soon.
THE PILATES CENTRE
The entire spectrum is on offer here, from group reformer and matwork classes, to private, semi-private (four people per class) and duet sessions, all of which can be customised to suit different levels of experience. It’s perfect for those recovering from an injury or looking for a pre- or post-natal practice.
BODHI J PIER ST
This 100% organic and natural wellness spa is the fifth Bodhi space, and is situated inside a former home in the suburbs of Perth. Bodhi’s signature neutral colour palette is still evident, as is the warm ambience. There’s a Friday night candlelit yoga class, and plenty of post-yoga fun to be had, like manis and pedis, and a spell in the sauna to cap off a class.
DIVINE FLOW YOGA
No mat, no worries. They’re provided at this Brookvale studio, along with all the props you’ll need for the class. There’s even a beach located conveniently nearby (that would be Curl Curl) for those that fancy a swim after class. Other amenities on offer: corporate classes, morning-of-your-wedding-day yoga, and a beginner’s course for budding yogis.
Fierce is probably the best way to describe both this place and how you’ll feel after a class. Fusing traditional Pilates with a high-intensity workout, expect a fast-paced body toning experience that caters to your level (newbie, regular and pro). KX even thoughtfully provide hair elastics so you can get that mop out of your face and get down to business.
