If you don’t normally wear colour on your lips, your wedding day is not the day to be road testing.
We’re all for taking risks, but your big day comes with enough as it is, right? Looking like yourself (only, better) and choosing a beauty look that enhances your natural features should be the goal and a nude lip is just about the best way to do that.
Still, there’s the dilemma of picking the right nude, which is arguably more tedious than finding a husband with so many similar options available. Here’s a time-effective, simple guide getting it right according to Carol Mackie, Senior Artist of the Wonka Factory of nude lipsticks that is M.A.C Cosmetics.
If you’re of the pastier, porcelain complexion, Mackie suggests going for a shade with pink or peach undertones. Avoid pale nudes that can look washed out on fairer skin tones.
Medium skin tones should stick with a pink/peach-based nudes but opt for a warmer, deeper shade that mimics and brings out the colour of their skin.
A highly-pigmented nude works best against an olive canvas. Opt for creamy mocha shades and statement nudes like M.A.C Cosmetics best-selling ‘Velvet Teddy’ – the precursor to and apparent inspiration for Kylie Jenner’s Lip Kits.
Dark skin tones will get compliments for deeper nudes with a dramatic finish (gloss, metallic, satin or matte) and should steer clear of pale nudes that can make them look “sickly, not sexy,” says Mackie.
…Or you could try the latest beauty internet hack that’s doing the rounds. Mackie shares: “I’m loving this tip I heard recently… matching the colour to your nipple, but this could prove tricking in store!”
