We’ve heard conflicting answers over the years…
But RiRi always looks flawless, so we figured Fenty Beauty global makeup artist Hector Espinal would know a thing or two (or five).
CONCEALER COMES AFTER FOUNDATION
You’ve spent hours camouflaging that zit but by lunchtime, it’s there for all the world to see. That’s not just you. “Concealer often wears off the quickest,” confirms Espinal, “so I always recommend applying it last to ensure it stays put as long as possible.” Choose one with a longwearing formula, like Fenty Beauty Match Stix Matte Skinstick.
USE YOUR FINGERS
Brush, sponge or digits? Espinal prefers his fingers, which “helps warm up the product so it applies better,” he says. His other tip: don’t be heavy-handed, but rather, build up coverage in thin layers.
SET WITH POWDER
To ensure you don’t get a nasty surprise when you look in the mirror at 3pm, “use a light brush or damp sponge with translucent powder to set the concealer,” suggests Espinal.
DON’T JUST CONCEAL YOUR SPOTS
The other areas Espinal conceals for selfie-ready skin? “Around the edges of the nose, the tear duct and the bridge of the nose,” he shares.
TRY COLOUR-CORRECTING FIRST
It’s one of those pro tips that will take your makeup skills to the next level. “This is essential, especially on dark circles,” says Espinal. “Colour-correcting will neutralise the area so you won’t need to use too much concealer on top.”
