When I left my position as Beauty Editor at InStyle Magazine Australia, I never would’ve imagined I’d be launching my own independent online beauty magazine a year later.

I probably would’ve laughed at the idea – thrown in an expletive or two – and then laughed again.

Yet last Thursday, in front of 70 of the beauty industry’s top publicists, beauty editors, bloggers and celebrities, that’s exactly what I did.

Held at ACME at Sydney’s Rushcutters Bay, guests sipped on Cointreau Fizz Basil and Cucumber cocktails. In between gin and tonic-infused cucumber, rockmelon and prosciutto (no, it’s the not the ’80s-style canape you think!) and fontina cheese and pepper arancini, guests enjoyed complimentary OPI manicures while Cheyenne Tozzi was revealed as the magazine’s debut cover girl.

I can’t quite explain it but there was something electric in the air at the launch event.

Maybe it was just me. Maybe it was because it was my event.

Nonetheless, the excitement and positivity in the industrial-style room was contagious.

I couldn’t stop smiling.

When asked at the event, “What made you want to launch an online beauty magazine?” – my response was simple.

“I wanted to do something that was different. I wanted to educate my readers on beauty in a way that hadn’t been done before. I wanted to create an online experience for my readers that was incomparable because really, at the end of the day, everything I do is for them.”

Alongside my long-term friend and Art Director Morgan Tait, I’m extremely excited and proud to have launched Gritty Pretty magazine – Australia’s first digital publication dedicated to beauty!

Having spent the past six months, 7 days a week, working on the magazine format, I’m so excited I finally get to share it with you.

I can’t wait to see how Gritty Pretty magazine grows and how we continuously try to push creative boundaries.

While I would’ve loved to have thrown an enormous celebration, in which all of you from all over the world could travel to Sydney to attend, I’m hoping that these photos and video will make you feel like you were there in spirit.
